just leave your cares behind
[ while the l'cie may be public enemy number one in most parts of cocoon, they're able to fly under the radar in the bustling entertainment center that is nautilus. vanille had been wanting to come back to the park after her first visit with sazh. if asked why, she'd most likely respond with wanting the party to take a break, because when will they ever get another opportunity to relax like this, it isn't as if the world is going to stop for them... but also, maybe she thinks that the memories of such a nice place like this shouldn't be marred by something from the past.
maybe it's a way for her to try and absolve herself of the guilt from that visit, because when isn't vanille thinking of penance?
whatever the case, the excitement she's showing fang now seems completely genuine. she can't keep herself from bouncing on her heels as they stroll down one of the park's many attraction-lined walkways. she gets the feeling that it might be a little too over the top for fang... but fang can at least try to humor her, can't she? ]
Oh, Fang, we have got to go to the petting zoo. Look, look—[ she grabs her partner's wrist with one hand, pointing animatedly in the distance with the other ]—you can see the chocobos from here!

That's because they've evolved differently from the Gran Pulse chocobos. They don't need to run away from monsters up here on Cocoon, you know.
[ she smiles, but as is par for the course with vanille, a different sentiment hides behind it. it's easier to forget that their home, their world has lost most of its natural beauty to danger and death... she shakes her head so subtly that the motion would probably be lost on anyone but fang. ]
Come on, you've got to admit that they're cute, at least!

[Despite Fang's casual observance of the ruins of Gran Pulse, the fact that they stood like grim skeletons, left by war and rampant Cie'th, have left their mark on her. She bore that sadness quietly, too--but it mingled with the smallest twinge of bitter satisfaction that the community that they had survived when the community that had declared them disposable in the end crumbled.]
[She meets Vanille's eyes, smiling back lightly. Vanille had enough ghosts for the both of them, and figures she'd be seeing them here, even during the happy little outing she herself proposed.]
Sure, they're cute. Look like they never finished growin' and they can't carry a rider more than five minutes, but I'll give 'em that much.
