it's that time of year again! whether you wanna do silly costume shopping, haunted house shenanigans, actual or whatever other spooky prompt you can think of, go for it! y'all know my characters by this point
also forgive me i'm at work on mobile as i post this, give me a break
this is halloween and welcome to jackass
Andrew Ryan approvedcostumes and are hand in hand with parents, demanding candy, like the brats they are. In a way, Mr. Jack O' Lantern doesn't stand out, but on the other hand... It's still kind of strange.Probably because he's standing completely still in front of a clothing department store, silent, stoic, and very unnerving. It seems that the owner inside is debating whether to ask him to move or not, lest he makes an unnecessary call to the police. But he really isn't DOING anything so that makes it okay??]

to help better integrate herself into Rapture's society and familiarize herself with its customs, Elizabeth Comstock (job applications had called for a last name, and she hadn't been able to think of anything else off the top of her head; she so wishes she could have gotten a do over) has taken to wandering the dangerous streets in her off time. the person with the jack o'lantern on his head definitely catches her eye; her first instinct is to think that he's a splicer, but when he continues to stand there stoically, she begins to feel otherwise. uncharacteristic behavior, for one. hmm... it is close to Halloween...
everything she's learned about survival during her time in Columbia tells her to just leave him alone, but her curiosity—which she's never fully been able to turn off—gets the better of her. cautiously, she treads softly toward him, and calmly says,]
Can I help you?

He's silent for a few seconds before he speaks up.]
Not really.
[Another uncomfortable few seconds before he speaks again. His tone of voice is monotone and his words come out choppy as if he has difficulty vocalizing.]
Waiting. For someone. We're not from here.
[... That might be a dangerous thing to admit in Rapture, but oh well. He doesn't really sound concerned oddly enough.]

[she repeats it, if only to make that a mental note on the guy, along with the other details she's garnering from the way he presents and expresses himself. that explains a few things, she guesses, though it does open up a bunch of other questions she now has. hm.
she has to wonder, though. if he's not a Rapture pioneer, two questions are of utmost importance: where is he from, and does he understand exactly where he's come to? she keeps these to herself for now, instead opting to offer,]
Well, from one visitor to another—waiting out here in the open isn't exactly the safest option.

[Meaning, he doesn't think he stands out THAT much from what there is and who there is to see around Rapture.]
... Visitor too. [Referring to Elizabeth of course.]
Where's your exit?
no subject
Not part of the plan, at the moment. I'm here for... business reasons.
[nailed it.]
Did your contact specifically say to meet right here?
1/2
[A beat.]
Mostly. Would catch up eventually.
[Speak of the devil...
The man points behind Elizabeth at a couple that's approaching closely.]

... Thanks for showing me around Donny! I don't get to go out often, believe it or not.
The pleasure's mine, Miss Oakes! Think we could do this again?
[Iona laughs lightly, waving her hand as she lets go of her date's arm.]
Who knows? You gotta go visit me first. I told you, that's how it pretty much works! [They part there after she sees Oren and lights up. She waves to her date and bounds over to Oren, not noticing Elizabeth at first.]
Hey, I'm ready to go back and... [Oh, hi Liz. She blinks and then grins.]
Ooooh? Mr. Pumpkinhead got himself a date??
good lord im sorry i forgot about this
Not quite. But, if he needs a cover story for being here, I suppose that can be arranged.
no problemo o/
[Iona, don't be like this... Still, she looks at Elizabeth curiously, but unlike Oren, figures that Elizabeth is just part of the city like everyone else.]
It's nice of you to offer though. Donny back there was pretty good at keeping up a story for me too. Two nice people in this city? That's a good record.
no subject
Elizabeth keeps her voice even as she casually gestures to Oren.]
Your friend already mentioned that you two aren't from here. I'm of the opinion that outsiders should look out for each other.
get rekt, lucio
That's right, there is no one else. Only D.Va. ]
Lúcioooo-- [ and she draws out his name for probably longer than should be allowed as she enters, not really watching where she's going because she's busy looking down at her phone. ]
What're you gonna be for halloween, dude?
no subject
it's with a laugh that he slides his headphones off and rests them around his neck, reclining in his seat. if nothing else, he admittedly enjoys indulging in the advanced tech and furniture that one can buy with sweet Overwatch money.]
You too, D? I swear, everyone's been getting hyped up on this. Except maybe 76, heh.
[note how he expertly avoids the question. he throws a pillow onto the seat where he hopes she'll look up from her phone long enough to see; if not, she's at least got a cushy thing to land on.]
no subject
Which is to say, she maneuvers her way successfully around whatever obstacles may lie between herself and the seat next to Lúcio, and takes her spot on the pillow he'd just thrown there seconds ago by flopping onto it. Teamwork. ]
I think Mercy's gonna be a witch or something super typical. And Rein's gonna be a Yeti or whatevs.
[ There's a bit of a conspiratorial glint in her eyes, a mischievous edge to her grin, when her gaze finally lifts from her phone's screen and up at him. ]
We [ yes, we as in Lúcio and her. whether he likes it or not. ] have to go hard on our costumes!
wow wtf i didn't even notice i spaced tf out in the middle of the last tag
still, he raises an eyebrow and leans forward in response, folding his arms atop his knees.]
Hey hey hey, since when is this a "we" thing?
no subject
[ Like, literally, it was decided just at this very second. ]
I saw this hilarious meme from like, forever ago and it made me think of you--
[ which is when she turns her phone around so he can see its screen and, yes. here come dat boi is playing on it. Hana's face, meanwhile, is lit with a wild excitement and amusement. ]
--I totally thought you should dress up as that! But then it wouldn't be a pair costume.
no subject
Hana—[oh, here we go, he's real naming now,]—no matter how hard you try, I'm not gonna be an ancient meme from my grandpa's age. How did you even find something like that, anyway?
