[on top of what feels like sparks alighting themselves within her when she feels the familiar compulsion to lie, light's prodding is like a jab at vanille's heart. she knows what happens when she lies. the truth gets obfuscated, things snowball out of control, and eventually even vanille forgets what's real and what's not. but how is she supposed to explain that she has been here before, when she chose to feign ignorance upon hers and lightning's arrival?

she should have learned when she lied to fang about their focus, all that time ago.

she keeps her face straight, but her wings subtly flutter—she hasn't quite learned how to control them yet. the light speckled fae wings are more twitchy than the heavy draconian gargoyle ones.]

It's nothing I'm not used to. I mean, remember when we were being hunted all across Cocoon? The only difference is this time... we actually are the monsters people think we are.

[comeuppanced]

[ lightning crosses her arms and looks off to the side. it would be easy to keep pushing vanille until she tells the truth, wouldn't it? lightning's learned to keep a cool head; she's not as impulsive or fiery as she used to be, though she has her moments.

but there are some things here that startle even her, catch her off-guard. lightning looks to vanille, eyes searching her face for what might be a little too long. ]

You sure that's the reason? I'm used to that, we all are, but even I get surprised here and there.

[what feels like a jolt of electricity runs up vanille's spine. she attempts to shrug it off, despite how awkward she feels under light's unfaltering gaze.]

Well, the changes have definitely been surprising... I hadn't expected this, after all.

[...at least that one for sure isn't a lie. she gestures to her chest, tapping at it with a claw. she has since abandoned her form-fitting halter top, replacing it with a plain baggy shirt that's more akin to a burlap sack. even with the fashion change, though, the fang-filled mouth she now tries to hide can still be seen through the cloth.]
