instead of gracefully playing in the day, she now stalks in the night, the light of the moon a shadow of what she used to enjoy. she finds she cannot wait at the roost she calls home, or else Fang may be tempted to check on her; she can't risk things while Fang is still human, because how could she possibly live with herself if anything were to happen should her monstrous instincts overpower her last vestiges of humanity?
she's brought out of her brooding reverie when the arachne lets out a yelp, and the sound of branches about to snap echoes through the night. with her eyes wide as she looks up and sees the other girl, she brings a hand to her mouth, and asks with genuine concern,]
Goodness—are you all right?
[thank goodness the other girl is a fellow monster; she'd be tempted to just run away had she been a human.]
no subject
—right, voice. She was being talked to.
The arachne peered down through the branches, for the moment resembling more a startled cat than a monstrous and pointed spider.]
I...think so? Maybe? That was scary.
[It was a cricket.]

Lots of things are scary around here, yeah. [neglecting to mention that they, the monsters, are usually the scary ones, she puts on what she hopes is a reassuring smile, hoping she hasn't forgotten how to do that. her tendency to lie mixed with her struggling to retain her humanity muddles things sometimes. nevertheless, she extends a helping hand.] Need help getting back down?

Nyu—I...I think so.
[She reached out towards that hand, claws lifted high up and away so she didn't stick them in anything. Nyu inched down the tree trunk slowly, cautiously, but didn't trust herself to go very far.]
AFTER A LONG DROUGHT...
[Vanille is more than used to trying to balance out monstrous characteristics with more humanlike motions at this point—hadn't all of them gone through a similar transition? her own claws try their best not to scratch Nyu, as she spreads her wings to try and counterbalance the additional weight of the arachne as she attempts to climb down the tree. Nyu may notice how the pigtailed girl's hand seems warm to the touch—not burning levels, but definitely much, much higher than a normal human's. it's almost like she's running a fever, even though she looks as normal as can be.]
!!
[Even with both their claws pulled out of the way, Nyu still squeaked when a hand touched her own. Less at its feverish temperature, and more at the contact itself. One of many things that reaffirmed none of this was a dream, she was...she was really here.
Carefully, cautiously, Nyu made her way out of the tree, flexing one strange leg at a time. She had some memory to her movements, though from where she didn't remember and didn't...want to remember. It was easier if she didn't think about it.
Finally, the arachne touched solid ground, but didn't feel entirely at ease. Suspended on these points for legs, it felt like she might topple over at any moment.
But that wasn't as important. Nyu didn't let go of Vanille's hand, even frowning a little—a little tightening of her brows, really, and a worried look on her face.]
...are you sick? You're really warm.

Mm, no, that just comes with being a gargoyle. Fire magic and whatnot, you know?
[her wings flutter a little as she says what she is; if she can so easily acknowledge her new form, how long, then, will it be until she stops thinking of herself as human? ... she'd rather not dwell on the question, though. instead, she puts on another smile—a little forced, but what habits of hers aren't, now—and cheerily pipes,]
I'm touched that you cared enough to ask, though!

Nyu!
[Goodness, how exciting! The girl's peculiar chirping tic turned into an almost-squeak.]
Does the snow bother you at all? Or the rain?
[The questions tumbled quickly after one another, like a child's inquisitive babbling. And she still hadn't let go of the gargoyle's hand.]
no subject
Curious one, aren't you? [when she giggles this time around, it's definitely more genuine; Nyu's sudden excitement is charming her.] Not really, I'm like a mobile heater! I can keep myself warm, but it is still nice to have a raincoat on for cover.
