[and it's not like josh cared that much about the legends of keyblade wielders when he was composer, so he doesn't want to talk about that too much. he turns to look at Neku suddenly, his expression an odd mix of earnest (for once) curiosity and reluctance]
People can travel to worlds. Did you ever wonder what other things could, too?
no subject
[he's gotta work on that imagination of his.]
(Where's he going with this...?)
no subject
Of course you didn't.
[it doesn't last long before he looks away to look up into the distance of the sky of Traverse Town]
There's an old saying that says every star in the sky is one. Another world. And when a star goes out... [he tilts his head a bit, still staring at the sky] It's very poetic. That there's a little bit more darkness every time a world "falls".
[THIS ANSWERS NOTHING]
no subject
[he's still not really following, unsurprisingly. ffs josh get to the point]
What does that have to do with us? With this place?
no subject
I'm trying to get you to understand what I'm about to say. This world-- the version of it that isn't my dream-- is a place that comes into existence to harbor people from worlds who have been lost.
no subject
[ it takes him a minute to go over this information... ]
Wait, so—you don't mean...Shibuya...
no subject
no subject
But... Shiki, Beat, Rhyme—everyone in Shibuya—what happened to them?
no subject
[THINGS THAT WOULD BE EMBARRASSING TO PAST JOSHUA: ADMITTING HE KIND OF CARES FOR NEKU AND HIS FRIENDS. but he brushes past it now, looking at neku critically]
I'd been making progress, but nothing like... Well. You're fully whole, Neku. You can't understand how surprising that is for me right now.
no subject
I'm honored. I didn't think you cared.
[he's joking, of course, in spite of the grim circumstances. he just knows that joshua would normally never admit to something like this, so for him to be able to openly say as much to neku... he guesses it wasn't just him who's changed.
he still can't fully wrap his head around the concept the way joshua can—because of course—but even he realizes the gravity of the situation. joshua did not let shibuya die. could not let shibuya die. not after everything they've been through.]
no subject
I suppose I can't blame you. It's not like I made it obvious. [he doesn't seem to realize neku's joking, too caught up in his own thoughts ... until he adds:] But you really should be flattered.
no subject
That you decided I was worth saving?
no subject
[enjoy those feels while they lasted, neku.]
no subject
[ you know what, he's just gonna shrug that one off. feelings with josh??? that's a little much for the current situation... ]
So... what benefits do I get, being the "real me"?
no subject
A fully realized personality? [he gestures vaguely to all of traverse town] Something about those travelers showing up kick started your growth, so you all seemed a lot more like your ... post-Game selves, I suppose I could call it. But I was a lot more concerned with keeping you around than examining every aspect of what I brought with me.
[and because this is apparently honesty hour, he looks at neku seriously]
I can't say I could be certain I knew you well enough to notice all the differences. [a beat] I'm only kind of omniscient, you know.
[it's. it's a joke. to lighten the gay.]
no subject
...he briefly wonders what joshua thought that'd be like, but decides that some things are better left unaddressed.]
Good thing I'll never know what kind of a job you did, since I'm actually here.
no subject
"What kind of job"...?
[but he just shrugs it off because fuck explaining the intricacies of how this works and how he didn't make a dream Neku because "you can't make people, Neku"]
Well, whatever. Should I take that to mean most of your questions are answered?
no subject
but joshua's response gives him pause. he kind of figures that, should there be anything else he wants to ask, josh would probably answer in a way that doesn't make sense to him anyway. still... there's one thing, he guesses, is kind of the elephant in the room right now.]
...How do we get Shibuya back?
no subject
[there's a trace of real bitterness there, but he's mostly keeping it deadpan. he has a general gist idea, but...]
World order is way out of your jurisdiction, Neku. Just think of it as an extended vacation.
[it's out of joshua's too, is what he doesn't say out loud]
no subject
(. . . Fair enough.)
[ so. new subject, then. ]
The other two you mentioned—the... world travelers. What were they doing here?
no subject
[ this neku might be whole, but the difference isn't as distinct as neku probably believes it is. still. josh decides to break character on himself and answer neku's question: ]
They were in the middle of a test of some sort. And... I believe something-- or rather, someone-- was interfering with it, but hopefully things worked themselves out for them. I didn't exactly get a status update after they left.
[ it's probably weird to hear josh casually talk about worrying about other people's circumstances, and yet ]
no subject
like hell he's gonna ask directly, though, even with as candid as josh is being with him right now. so, a nonchalant tone is what he decides to go with instead. ]
Huh. You using the word "hopefully" without being sarcastic? Maybe I'm the one that's dreaming.
(I'd ask you to pinch me, but since it's you we're talking about... yeah, no.)
no subject
because of that, joshua's smile at that is less mocking smirk and more indulgent than he intends it to be... though it doesn't change his dialogue any. ]
Wow, Neku. I had no idea you dreamed of me. I'm truly flattered. [ his horrible words said, joshua looks up into the distance ] But I assure you, this isn't one of your fantasies. Also, I would duck if I were you.
no subject
he doesn't get the chance to ponder on that for too long, though, because warnings take precedence over banter. ]
—?!
[ he knows better than to question a suggestion like that at this point, so duck he does. ]
no subject
I suppose that answers my question as to whether the Dream Eaters would target you or not.
[ joshua is, of course, infuriatingly calm about this. is he going to help at any point in time? sure. but-- ]
Neku, this is a dream. You're not limited to the constraints of reality. You may want to take advantage of that.
[ he could also just teach neku how to flowmotion ]
