Reunion - for Marie
And now she was here. A place teeming with Servants, their singular Master, and all the staff that ran the place. Teeming was perhaps the wrong word, but it was a small facility and it was hard not to run into people. Part of her wondered how one Master kept them all supplied with Mana.
The thought is driven from her mind in an instant as she peers down a corridor and catches a glimpse of a girl with her hair in two long tails and that absurdly round hat on her head. That girl is familiar and it feels as if her name is on the tip of her Jeanne's tongue. Without thinking, Jeanne turns and takes a few steps down the corridor. She's slow at first, hesitant almost, then her pace picks up speed until she is almost marching towards the girl. Jeanne feels giddy, excited memories picking at the edge of her mind as she finally
eases herself to a halt. Be calm, Jeanne. ]
Excuse me. I think... I think I know you.
i too got wordy
she turns around slowly as she recognizes the voice coming from behind her. for a second, she is overjoyed to see the maiden saint; she knows that after her sacrifice, her master and jeanne had resolved the singularity, but it's a whole different thing to see the ruler-class servant with her own eyes. she also seems to be a true servant now, rather than her human shade in orleans... that must explain the confusion, why she finds marie familiar but can't seem to remember exactly who she is.
the hurt in marie's heart at being a forgotten memory lasts only another second more. if she has to befriend jeanne d'arc once again, so be it. getting to be with the hero of legend who had saved her—their country in any capacity is a blessing, and she'd do it many times more if she has to. so it's with a warm smile that she greets jeanne, her arms outstretched and open wide. ]
Ah, Jeanne! Welcome to Chaldea, ma cheriƩ.
ow right in my feelings
Thank you. You must forgive me, but I... I don't remember your name. I feel as if I should know it, though.
[ It is there, she knows it. It's just... hidden in some warm, fuzzy fog that she can't seem to penetrate. Had this girl been with her at Orleans? ]

[they'd been warned it could happen, as jeanne had not yet become a full-fledged servant when they'd formed provisional contracts with their master... marie wishes there was an easier way to explain. even so, jeanne's smile is enough to give her hope that, buried somewhere in the maiden's memories, their time together is merely locked away instead of being permanently lost.]
My name, ma cherié, is Marie. Tell me, do you remember anything of the Orleans singularity?
no subject
[ Jeanne is certain that she knows this woman and sese of familiarity and comfort only builds the longer she stands here. She remembers bits and pieces, flashes of things that had happened. The war with her darker self--or at least the impression of it--is the first thing that comes to her mind. The girl speaks again.
Marie. The name rings in her ears like a bell and Jeanne is filled with an effervescent sense of love and delight. That name--that is the name that had been so close to the front of her mind and yet just out of her reach! She laughs. ]
Yes! Marie. It's a very pretty name. I knew that I knew what your name was.
[ Orleans... Oh she should know this! She focuses on the word, groping in her mind. She remembers it as she lived and she remembers something else now, too. Her Master had been there and Mash and Amadeus and--! ]
Marie!
[ Tears prick at the corners of her eyes and Jeanne throws her arms around the other girl, pulling her close. ]
Oh my dear Marie...!
no subject
I will not forgive you... because there is nothing to be sorry about! [a small giggle, as she quickly presses her cheeks to jeanne's before pulling back. the tradition of faire la bise may have become popular only after both their deaths, but marie is always open to new ideas, especially those of her beloved country.] It's so good to be with you again, Jeanne.
no subject
If you say so, dearest Marie.
[ She brushes her cheek along Marie's in imitation, perhaps a little clumsier than the other girl. Jeanne is only a country girl, after all. Jeanne leans back, opening a little space. Her cheeks feel hot and she's certain that she's blushing. ]
It's good to be with you again, too. I've missed your smile...

[ as much as marie would like to continue being sentimental, that's not exactly her style. no, she revels in joy, in festiveness, and that's where she shines most brightly. releasing her hold around jeanne, she claps her hands together in delight as an idea comes to her. ]
Oh! Would you like to do something special to celebrate your arrival in Chaldea? We can have a girls night, and you can tell me all about what I missed in Orleans! Master has already told me what happened, of course, but I'd like to hear your version, too. Plus, I can make us cake!
no subject
I should like that very much. You'll forgive me if my memory is a little hazy, but I shall do my best...
no subject
[ of course marie would plan for something like that. her selfless nature never allows her to be the sole beneficiary of her actions. logic would dictate that causing jeanne to actively recall her time in orleans should help jumpstart her memory, wouldn't it? with that, she holds out her hand for jeanne to take. ]
Come, ma cheriƩ. Let's go to my room.

[ Jeanne looks at Marie's hand, then takes it with a gentle blush to her cheeks. She's starting to remember how affectionate and enthusiastic Marie is and it's not unpleasant. It's really very much the opposite, but Jeanne isn't used to such exuberance most of the time! Jeanne lets herself be tugged along to Marie's room, quiet and thoughtful. ]
Isn't it strange that we get a second chance?
no subject
[marie can't deny that. surely, there were many other souls across time and space who also deserved a new life. but the throne of heroes establishes that there's a difference between mundane heroes and those who were actually capable of affecting history. it's a sad truth, and marie's heart cries for the family she'll never see again, the retainers she'd grown up with, the people of her country who came centuries after she'd been executed.
... but she also does not like to dwell on such sad topics, nor does she wish to harbor feelings of guilt for things that aren't her fault. so, with a smile, she continues,]
But I prefer to think of it as a blessing! The future of humanity is depending on us, non? To save the world, I would accept third, fourth, and fifth chances if there's anything I can do to help. Don't you feel the same, Jeanne?
no subject
It was heavy enough when it was France and now it must be the whole world? All of humanity? Of course I will do everything I can. If I can help, I will. It's my duty, isn't it?
[ Her hands twist in front of her, clutching each other. ]
We must do what we can. I just don't know if I am worthy of such consideration.

Your presence here in Chaldea proves that you are worthy, ma cherié. Your courage helped ensure the future of the country we both love. In a way, maybe I wouldn't have existed if you hadn't left your mark upon history... and I might not have had the chance to be with you now.
So thank you, Jeanne.
